WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS……

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS……

Change is hard…..even when we want to. Yesterday, I was once again reminded about the value of surrounding oneself with like minded people while on this transformational journey.

Sanskrit has a lovely word ‘Satsang’ which captures this sentiment ever so beautifully. ‘Sat’ means truth and ‘sang’ (pronounced ‘sung’) means association. In other words, the ‘association with truth (like minded people)’ is strongly recommended as an importance ingredient for any personal transformation.

Two beautiful instances yesterday. First, I was invited to interact with a group of  very successful women entrepreneurs. These eight women from very diverse fields have on their own formed a group with one single objective – to create an enabling and conducive environment where they are able to have open conversations with each other on their work related challenges and explore solutions together. They meet every month at a fixed time and venue.

As I interacted with them, it became obvious that they had considerable trust in each other and were very passionate about their own self-development. This was indeed ‘satsang’ at its best. What was particularly inspiring was that these ladies were now looking to go further – they wanted to utilize this solid foundation to not just further their business and material growth, but wanted to develop the skills to lead more holistically fulfilling lives. I walked away with a deep sense of appreciation for their commitment to excellence- starting with themselves!

Over the past few years, a very important part of my life has been the regular association with two very special people. We meet every week for breakfast and the conversation/energy is primarily centered around our personal transformational journeys. Yesterday, as they celebrated an important milestone in their lives with a dinner, I found myself at my own satsang of yoga buddies. While I can’t claim close friendship with many of them, I felt a quiet kinship that comes from a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other. I awoke this morning with  a huge smile – one of gratitude….for the wonderful people whom I am surrounded with…from an old high school classmate who brought me into her circle, my two special fellow travelors and the many others with whom one shares a common bond.

A wonderful association of like minded people! Check out this piece…..from the Beatles!

  1. Thank you Sanjay for an interpretation of the term 'Satsang'. I don't know Sanskrit but had the impression that it is a prayer circle. Your article is interesting in other ways as well, as it tells me the many ways of looking at our lives for things and people to be grateful for!
